It takes about 5 hours from Athens to get to Meteora, but if you have the two days, then it’s definitely worth the trip up. The public transportation route is doable, and cheap. Tour buses are an option as well. We did a private car tour by Athens Taxi, which I thought was more suitable with our 18 month old toddler. We also stayed at a brand new B&B, Iridanos Guest House. The management is amazing, with excellent service, and very good value for the money. Hotel is pristine clean, and convenient to main town square in Kalambaka. The Meteora monasteries themselves are incredible. The walk up is not too bad, if you have a car or by tour bus. It drops you off half way, then there’s stairs up. The Megalo monastery is a must. The rest are equal in beauty.
